Hawaii !! Patrol Incentive Trip

03-10-2007

So you have been wondering about the patrol incentive trip? Well, here it is. Sounds like it was an awesome trip. And you know what?

WE'RE DOING IT ALL AGAIN THIS SEASON!

Read below to find out what you could be up to if you fulfill your patrol obligations.

********************************************************

Firstly, a big thanks to Northcliffe SLSC for the opportunity to spend time in fabulous Hawaii. Walking out the front door and looking directly across to the beautiful blue water of Waikiki Beach was a great start to our holiday. Our travel consultants (Helen and Kim) had done a great job with booking the trip and Kim and Holly had joined patrol incentive winners for the trip. The waves were small but the water was warm and the days sunny.

John volunteered to tackle the right hand driving with Jamie as navigator. This took a little bit of time to master. In fact, by the time John could work out how to reach the pedals, find the hand brake release and decipher the instructions the girls had piled in and out of the hot car 3 times before the car left the rental complex.

Our first few days included exploring the beaches, shops, cocktails, restaurants and one way streets around Waikiki. Jo managed to fit in the Waikiki open water swim and gave John and Kim some advice on tipping at dinner. Nikki and Helen arrived a couple of days later because Helen?s bags took so long to come through the every luggage carousel.

We all headed to the North Shore to check out the famous breaks of Pipeline, Sunset and Waimea. On the way back we convinced John to detour to the Outlet shopping mall and had a bit of excitement when we ended up on the wrong side of a four lane highway. A little bit of squealing, fast turns and we were safely idling on the median strip. Never mind we arrived safely at the outlet shops and John went home for a well earned drink.

On our last day together in Waikiki we donned our patrol gear and head to the beach for some memorable shots with the Duke Kahanamoku and Maui?s famous lifeguards. Jamie was keen for Mexican dinner again!

We then all headed off to the beautiful island of Maui. Our stay in Ka?anapali saw us enjoying more drinking, eating, swimming, snorkelling, walking and channel surfing. I think Jamie was getting RSI. Kim, Jo and Helen explored the old whaling town of Lahaina where we had a unique Aussie art experience and Helen and Nikki got to snorkel with a turtle. Although John was now much better at staying on the right side of the road he still had a problem with a navigator that didn?t talk much. He also had a singing trio (Kim, Holly and Nikki) in the back that wouldn?t turn off.

We parted ways in Maui, with John, Kim and Jamie heading to Kaui and Jo, Helen, Nikki and Holly heading back to Waikiki. Back in Waikiki, Holly finally found a good reason to tip when we had a cute waiter and Helen found a personal trainer on a morning run. A final shopping run saw us all needing an extra bag to bring home the bargains.

There are four others who will sit the assessment next weekend to finalise the group.

Special thanks to Tiarne Smith for helping with the training.

Almost forgot, 2 other awards where handed out during the week.

1. Biggest, Gnarliest, Best Body Surfing Barrell - Sam Elliot
2. Loudest Scream Whilst Body Surfing a Wave - Katie Goldman

Good Work guys, Congratulations.

Northcliffe Goes To Japan

11-06-2007

Last season we had a Japanese film crew come and take some footage for a show in Japan. Here is a screen grab from the show. Lucky we put our best looking blokes up front.

Dolphin Soft Rescue Boards

09-06-2007

We have just finished our first Bronze Squad with the new soft rescue boards from Dolphin Surf Craft. They have proved to be a great new asset to our training resources. The girls really like them because they are more forgiving and manageable then the big fibreglass boards. Plus, the girls go home with far less bruises. Check out the video of Sarah and Anik catching a great wave on the new boards.
